VARANASI: The case related to recovery of a woman 11 years after her abduction is turning more curious with every passing day. On Tuesday, the Varanasi police washed off its hand with the case by stating that it had no role in it, while Mathura police are not forthcoming over the current status of main accused - a spiritual guru.
The twist and turns in the case started after SP,city, Sudhakar Yadav made it clear that written request from police outside the district was mandatory for Varanasi police acting on a case not registered with it.
Following SP's comment, the local cops washed off their hands in the case. The Mathura cop - station officer Highway in Mathura - Surendra Yadav -- told TOI that the arrested accused, Vimuktanand, cannot be shown as arrested till the rescued victim ascertains his identity as kidnapper in front of court concerned.
The police approach forced the rescued woman, her father and children to stay in the flat of alleged kidnapper along with him.
Meanwhile, station officer, Lanka, Vinod Kumar Yadav told TOI that the rescued woman, her father and Vimuktanand had been taken to Mathura in taxi by sub-inspector Maan Singh of Mathura police. "A woman constable and two male constables have been sent as escort, he added.
On Monday, a Mathura resident Jaideep Chowdhary (name changed) reached Lanka police station in Varanasi. He produced a copy of an FIR lodged with Highway police station of Mathura on July 26, 2003. He told that a spiritual guru of his father-in-law had become familiar with his family and later abducted his daughter Rashmi (name changed) with the help of his accomplice Bachchu. Since then he had been searching for his daughter.
While Bachchu was later awarded five-year imprisonment by a court in this regard, the main accused identified as Mukesh Prasad Singh alias Vimuktanand alias Mauni Baba could not be located.

After leaving Mathura, Vimuktanand started living in Varanasi with Rashmi, who became mother of two sons. Jaideep reached Varanasi after Rashmi contacted him over phone. Though Mukesh had escaped after getting information about Jaideep's arrival, cops nabbed him in a late night development.
By Monday evening sub-inspector Maan Singh of Mathura police had arrived in the city and the rescued woman as well as Mukesh were handed over to him.
