State IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday said that background work related to finalising and rolling out of the Wi-Fi enabled 4G network in the city is going on in full swing. “We will be the first city to roll out such a high-end facility for mobile phone users in the country. Now, it’s up to the mobile manufacturers to step up and offer affordable 4G enabled handsets,” he said.

Launching two new smartphones from Celkon, the Minister acknowledged that mobile technology has leapfrogged and has changed the way people communicate. “The younger generation has become tech savvy and their demands and expectations are huge. Providing a plethora of features in smartphones and yet managing to offer the same at affordable rates has become a huge challenge for the manufacturers,” he said.

The two smartphones, Millennium Power Q3000 and Millennium Elite Q470, are run on Android’s latest Kit Kat operating system and are priced Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 11,999 respectively. The five-inch Q3000 smartphone is powered by a huge 3,000 mAH battery, 1 GB RAM, 1.3 GHz Quad Core processor with 8 MP camera and 1.3 MP front camera. The phone, however, comes only with an internal memory of 4GB, but has an option of expandable memory of up to 32 GB.

The Elite Q470 Kit Kat smartphone is HD-enabled, 1800 mAH battery, 16 GB internal memory and 1 GB RAM along with 1.3 GHz Quad Core processor. Apart from making these phones available in retail outlets, the Celkon has also teamed up with snapdeal.com, which will start selling the phones from July 16.
