The stand-off between Minister for Municipal Administration and Wakf Qamarul Islam and Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party members continued on Tuesday with the members refusing to pose any question to the Minister in the Legislative Council. The Minister has been indicted by the Privileges Committee of the Legislative Council for “misleading” the House over information relating to Wakf properties.
BJP members also objected to a ruling party member, K. Abdul Jabbar, who sought to get a query answered by the Minister. When Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy ruled that Mr. Jabbar had the right to question the Minister, BJP member G. Madhusudan walked out in protest.
Demanding a discussion on the Privileges Committee’s report, Leader of the Opposition K.S. Eshwarappa said the Minister had misled the House by providing false information and the Opposition would not want to ask him any question.
BJP members Ashwathnarayana and Kota Srinivas Poojary, whose questions were slated for reply by the Minister in the House on Tuesday, said they did not want his reply. This led to a heated debate between the Opposition and the ruling party members on whether or not the Minister can be allowed to answer on the floor of the House.
Mr. Shankaramurthy assured the members that he would allow a discussion on the report on Wednesday.
