New Delhi: Ashok Khemka, the Haryana cadre civil services officer, who brought to light the land deals of Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, could be deputed to the central government in the next few days.

Khemka left the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government in Haryana red faced in October 2012 after he refused to sign off on an estimated 58 crore land deal involving Vadra.

A person with knowledge of the development said Khemka had asked for a deputation to the central government in March and that the Haryana government moved his papers in April.

“At the time Ashok Khemka moved his papers for central deputation, it was the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government which was in power. He has served at various positions in the Haryana government in the past 23 years and was hoping to move to the central government, as he has been sitting without work for nearly two years," the person cited above said.

Khemka said he has sought a transfer to the central government but that he did not have any knowledge of his impending transfer.

In December 2013, the Haryana government charged Khemka with overstepping his official brief in cancelling the land deal involving Vadra. The chargesheet, which holds him liable on seven counts, also says he resorted to administrative misconduct by criticising the actions and policies of the state government in public.

According to the chargesheet, Khemka was transferred on October 11, 2012, from the post of director general consolidation of holdings (DGCH) and inspector general registration, but went ahead and ordered an inquiry into the alleged undervaluation of assets owned by Vadra and his companies in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Palwal and Mewat districts even after his transfer orders were issued.

His decision to stay the transfer of land sold by Vadra was also done after his transfer, the chargesheet said.

He also singled out the particular deal involving Vadra, it added.

Given his anti-corruption stance, Khemka was invited by to join the Aam Aadmi Party whose central plank has been its campaign against corruption in the state elections in November-December last year and the April-May national polls.
