A woman suffered burn injuries when a necromancer set her on fire after a quarrel in Handia Khas village in Badagaon on Monday afternoon.

VARANASI: A woman suffered burn injuries when a necromancer set her on fire after a quarrel in Handia Khas village in Badagaon on Monday afternoon. Villagers caught the necromancer and handed him over to police. The woman was struggling for survival at SPG Hospital.
Munni Devi (40) dwells in her house at Handia Khas village with her daughter Sushma while her husband Tej Bahadur and two sons are in Surat to earn livelihood.
Munni has a health problem. She contacted necromancer Chhote Lal Yadav of neighbouring Chungwar village for treatment.
Yadav came to the house Munni Devi for a treatment session on Monday afternoon. Sushma had gone to a neighbouring house at that time. After some quarrel, Yadav initially tried to strangulate Munni and later set her on fire by pouring kerosene on her. On hearing her cries, Sushma and other villagers rushed there.
Yadav tried to escape but the villagers foiled his bid. He was handed over to police.
Chain looted: Gold chain of Rekha Gupta, wife of dean of Sanskrit faculty, Banaras Hindu University, was looted by two miscreants in Nagwa area in Lanka police station on Monday. The incident occurred when she was returning home after offering prayers at a temple.
