Novak Djokovic said "it was a perfect moment" after marrying his childhood sweetheart just days after winning the men's title at Wimbledon.

The 27-year-old Serbian-born player, who has often starred at Perth's Hopman Cup, exchanged vows with Jelena Ristic in the grounds of Montenegro's Aman Sveti Stefan resort.

Ristic, who is expecting the couple's first child, wore a dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the designer of Kate Middleton's wedding dress.

"Seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress, smiling and walking towards me - she looked like an angel," Djokovic told Hello! magazine

"I was trying to be present in that moment and memorise it. I was focused on her, and her smile and our baby. It really was a perfect moment."

"I was very nervous and everything seemed a blur. I was seeing him through tears and immediately started crying when I saw him," Ristic said.

"I was just so happy and probably being pregnant makes it quite difficult to control the emotions. I am so blessed to have him in my life. I couldn't ask for a better partner than him."

The couple married last week, just four days after Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final and dedicated his five-set victory - his second Wimbledon win - to his fiancee and unborn baby.

Among the guest's were Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, Djokovic's coach Marian Vajda and his wife, as well as his fellow Serbian tennis players Viktor Troicki, Nenad Zimonjic and Janko Tipsarevic.

According to local media reports they rented all of the islet resort, which is occupied by a fortified village built in the 15th century, to maintain privacy. Many film stars, among them Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Orson Welles and Kirk Douglas, frequented the resort in the 1960s and 1970s.
