Corporate Centre are Powergrid TT champions

NAGPUR: Title favourites Corporate Centre (CC) lived up to their reputation to reign supreme in the Powergrid Inter-Regional Table Tennis tournament, organized under the auspices of Nagpur District Table Tennis Association (NDTTA), at Ambedkar College Sports Academy Hall here on Monday.
In a well contested final, CC brushed aside the challenge of Northern Region-II 3-1.CC had a poor start and lost the first singles when Bidyut Kumar lost to Ravi Choudhary 11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 7-11.
However, J Mukherjee restored parity trouncing Hemant Jain 11-5, 11-0, 11-9. Sanjay Sharma thrashed Sandeep Kumar 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 to take 2-1 lead. In the reverse singles, Mukherjee clinched the issue in his team’s favour by getting the better of Choudhary 11-5, 11-8, 11-8.
Earlier in the semis Northern Region-II edged out Eastern Region-I 3-2 while Corporate Centre prevailed over Western Region-2 3-2.
In the individual men’s singles event, Mukherjee, Ravi Choudhary, Kumar Nikhil and Amit Prasad Gupta sailed into the semifinals.
The men’s singles and doubles semis and finals will be played at Powergrid Hall on Tuesday from 10 am.
