‘The Doors’

Der Garten, BIEL, July 12, doors open 7 p.m., film at 8.30 p.m., 71-231-307

Screening as part of the ‘Troubled Symphonies’ cycle, Oliver Stone’s 1991 biopic looks back at the story of the influential rock band’s lead singer and composer, Jim Morrison, from his film student days at UCLA to his death in Paris at age 27.

Beirut ... Tariq al-Jadideh’

Metro al-Madina, Hamra Street, July 14, doors open at 9 p.m., 76-309-363

Still going strong after a year, Yehia Jaber and Ziad Itani’s one-man comedy fictionalizes various celebrities from the Beirut neighborhood of Tariq al-Jadideh, via tales of Beirut customs, women, families, cooking and marital relations.

MUSIC

‘Hishik Bishik’

Metro al-Madina, Hamra Street, Thursdays and Saturdays, 9:30 p.m.

Now in its second year on stage, this immensely popular homage to the profane cabaret culture of early 20th-century Egypt celebrates Arab femininity, and features the dance of Randa Makhoul and the vocal work of Yasmina Fayed and Lina Sahab. Read The Daily Star review.

‘Life is Beautiful Mr Brainwash’

Gallery 69 and ex Maqam, Saifi Village, until July 19, 2-9 p.m.

Curated by Belairfineart, this show features work by Paris-born Patrick Rubinstein, whose oeuvre includes pop art-flavoured paintings and sculptures.

‘Work in the Field’

This exhibition features the serigraphs and lithographs of Dutch-born, Mexican-based artist Jan Hendrix.

‘Arabic Calligraphy’

This exhibition features limited edition prints by Beirut-based American artist Everitte Barbee, who uses the Diwani Jali script to create elaborate ink-on-paper works.

‘Cheap (and way more expensive) Prints’

‘Syria’s Apex Generation’

Curated by Maymanah Farhat, this exhibition -- featuring recent works by Nihad Al Turk, Abdul Karim Majdal Al-Beik, Othman Moussa, Mohannad Orabi, and Kais Salman -- spotlights a new school of Syrian painting still growing despite the disintegration of Damascus’ scene.

‘All Mother Tongues Are Difficult’

During its long history, AUB has accumulated many works of art that one encounters daily. “Art in Office” displays several works found in the university’s various academic and administrative buildings.
