Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) has denied any role in the killing of Ngalangzar Malui, a member of the Autonomous District Council, Ukhrul district on Saturday. However, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Home Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei are blaming this outfit for Malui’s death and the government has launched a crackdown on the NSCN(IM) office at Ukhrul.

The police have arrested four NSCN(IM) cadres and seven other persons. The government has clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC. Condemning the government action, the outfit has demanded the release of the "innocent persons".

The United Naga Council, an organisation of the Nagas which has been demanding "alternative arrangements" for the Nagas in Manipur has also demanded that the prohibitory orders be lifted. It also wants

the removal of police and paramilitary personnel from the district . If it’s demands were ignored it would launch agitations, it has warned.
