Substation snags trigger outages in north Delhi
NEW DELHI: Large parts of north Delhi faced power cuts on the weekend due to technical snags in Delhi Transco's Gopalpur and Subzi Mandi substations.
Several areas under Tata Power Delhi such as Jahangirpuri, Pitampura, Tiggipur, Civil Lines, Model Town, Wazirabad, Azadpur, Shakti Nagar, Gopalpur, Gulabi Bagh and Subzi Mandi reeled under power cuts ranging from two to four hours on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Official said snags occurred due to equipment failure in the substations and had been rectified.
The first power cut occurred around 11 pm on Saturday night due to burning of an equipment at Gopalpur, impacting a load of approx 300MW. Tata Power claimed it managed to restore supply within an hour.
The second power cut occurred around 1.20am on Sunday, impacting around 95MW load. Several areas such as Shahzada Bagh, BG Road, Delhi University and Tripolia were majorly affected.
"In order to manage the uninterrupted power supply, both the Delhi Transco Limited and TPDDL systems have to work in tandem with a focus on with N-1 provision. Delhi Transco Limited has to immediately augment its transmission capacity which is currently very constrained and vulnerable. Non adherence to immediate corrective actions could lead to major outages across Delhi," the statement said.
