Harish Rao for Delhi on Monday

Seeks Centre’s intervention in confirming the share of Telangana in Krishna waters in view of the ongoing river water dispute with Andhra Pradesh.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao will meet Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati in New Delhi on Monday seeking the Centre’s intervention in confirming the share of Telangana in Krishna waters in view of the ongoing river water dispute with Andhra Pradesh.

Sources said Mr. Rao will urge Ms. Bharati to refer the water dispute to a tribunal for adjudication under Section 3 of Inter-State Water Disputes Act.

The State government will ask the Centre to review allocation of water to all three riparian States – Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rao on Saturday convened a special meeting of irrigation, land acquisition, and revenue officials to discuss the delay in commissioning of Yellampally project.

It was noted that there was water storage in the dam, but irrigation did not take place due to land acquisition problems.

The acquisition for 120 acres in Manthani could not take place as the compensation was not paid. So, it was decided to acquire the land by December after making one time settlement to evacuees duly allocating funds in the coming budget.

The irrigation officials were fixed a target to bring under cultivation one lakh acres out of the total ayacut of Yellampalli to an extent of 2.20 lakh acres by next kharif, Mr. Rao told media persons after the meeting.

He said the meeting also discussed the failure to release water to 30,000 acres under Kaddam project in Adilabad due to a problem on account of power supply.

The officials were asked to construct a sub-station and a tower to rectify the problem and release water next month.
