NZ are hampered by retirement of a few experienced cricketers.

wellington: Medium fast bowlers James Franklin and Kyle Mills were Tuesday included in the New Zealand cricket team to play three limited-overs internationals in South Africa next month, provided they are able to pass fitness tests.

Mills withdrew from the New Zealand Test team, currently touring South Africa, with a calf strain, while Franklin was not considered for the Test matches because of a knee injury.

Selection panel manager Richard Hadlee said he was confident Franklin and Mills would be fit to play the one-dayers.

"With several weeks remaining before they are due to leave, we are confident they will be returning to full bowling loads and fitness in time to take their places in the squad," Hadlee said.

Daniel Vettori will captain the New Zealand team to play South Africa in a Twenty20 international before the series of three limited-overs matches.

"We are delighted to announce such a strong squad based on the team that performed well in the ICC World Twenty20," Hadlee said.

"Despite the retirements of a number of experienced players this year, this squad has the talent to compete with South Africa and make inroads into their advantage in the ICC ODI (one-day international) world rankings," he added.

Squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Shane Bond, James Franklin, Mark Gillespie, Gareth Hopkins, Jamie How, Michael Mason, Kyle Mills, Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Lou Vincent.
