ALLAHABAD: Chairman of Kunda Town Area was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting a sub-inspector and a constable near Hospital Tri-Section in Kunda PS area of Pratapgarh on Tuesday night.
The accused, Gulshan Yadav, was produced in court on Saturday and sent to jail.
Earlier, the two cops were medically examined and a case was lodged against Yadav and his 10 unidentified supporters under various sections of the IPC and SC/ST Act on the complaint of the injured constable.

IG, Allahabad Zone, Mutha Ashok Jain said, "The chairman of the civic body has been sent to jail and a thorough probe is underway."
"CO Kunda arrested Yadav on Friday during a raid at his residence from where was taken to Jathwara police station. On Saturday he was sent to jail and a probe into the incident has been ordered," the IG said.
According to reports, SI Prahlad Bharatiya and constable Ram Anugrah Tiwari had stopped town area chairman Yadav's car during a routine checking drive. This led to heated arguments between the two sides following which Yadav and his henchmen allegedly thrashed Tiwari. The SI tried to save him but he too was assaulted.

Out-numbered, the two cops then made a dash towards Kunda Kotwali. The chairman and his aides followed them and created ruckus on the police station premises in front of junior cops. The assailants had later escaped before senior police officials arrived at the spot.
A police circle officer of Kunda, DySP Zia-ul-Haq, was killed on the night of March 2, 2013, in retaliatory violence following the murder of Pratapgarh's Balipur panchayat chief Nanhe Yadav.
