July 13, 2014 12:56 pm | Updated 12:56 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The seventh Sunday Morning Classical Music concert is to be a Nadaswaram performance by Guruvilli Appanna.

Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Guruvilli Appana will be performing at Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan on the Beach Road on Sunday from 6.30 a.m. He will be accompanied by N. Ramu on thavil, K Narayana on sruthi and K Sekhar on thalam. This is a part of the Sunday Morning Classical Music concerts being organised by Tarakeswara Foundation which operates Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan.

Nadaswaram belongs to a family of musical instruments called Mangal Vadya and is considered one of the most auspicious musical instruments. It is played extensively on auspicious occasions and at temples across South India. It is similar to Shehnai used in Hindustani music but is relatively longer, according to managing trustee of Tarakeswara Foundation Sehdev Singh.
