In the presence of people’s representatives and senior government officers, a group of Kudumbasree entrepreneurs, attached to Nutrimix units across Kerala, proudly introduced 14 new products for the State on Saturday.

“We have launched popular halwa varieties, biscuits, cakes, and a number of other home-made snacks as part of the new experiment,” K.B. Valsalakumari, Executive Director of Kudumbasree Mission, told The Hindu .

The products will hit the market after a trial catering at the three-day Kudumbasree anniversary fete scheduled to begin in Thiruvananthapuram on August 12. The new products of the self-help groups are being launched after their success with Nutrimix — one of Kerala’s own baby food brands. The enterprise ensures a regular income to over 2,000 women.

Ms. Valsalakumari said the product diversification strategies would be given full support and steps would be taken for marketing through modern branding techniques and packaging.

The Nutrimix units, which were engaged in the production of baby food alone for the past eight years, would no longer be confined to that area and they would be encouraged to make trendier home-made products for the market. She expressed joy over the high participation of women from the Malabar region for the profitable functioning of Nutrimix units.
