Balakote blast accused flee from police custody

SRINAGAR, July 12: Two accused in the last month’s Balakote blast today fled from police custody while six police personnel including a police officer were injured when their vehicle was attacked by a group of stone pelters in Srinagar this evening.
A Special Investigating Team (SIT), led by a Police  Inspector, investigating June 25 blast in Balakote Poonch in which Naib Tehsildar Office was blown up today raided Batmaloo area of Srinagar and arrested Abdul Majeed Ganie of Kupwara from Batmaloo.
The police team that had already arrested a person Irfan Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Qayoom Khan, a resident of Dhargloon, Mendhar last week, was accompanying the police party when they arrested Ganai.
The police team was travelling in a Scorpio bearing registration number JK12-4453 and when it reached Munawerabad near HDFC Bank, the accused Abdul Majeed shouted for help from saving him from “kidnappers”.
Scores of persons mostly youth assembled and smashed the vehicle by pelting stones at the vehicle. All the six policemen who were in civvies were injured in stone pelting. The injured are Inspector of Police, SHO, Police Station Gursai Sadakat Hussain Qureshi, Head Constable Nisar Khan, Head Constable Naveel Khan, Constable Mohammad Sikander, Constable Mohammad Asrar and SPO Shakeel Ahmad.
The two accused Abdul Majeed and Irfan Khan who were arrested took advantage of stone pelting and managed to escape.
A police party from Police Station Khanyar rushed to the spot and took them to Rainawari hospital for treatment and the damaged Scorpio was taken to Khanyar Police Station.
Khanyar Police have registered a case and are conducting investigations.
Irfan Khan had told his interrogators that the IED was provided to him by Abdul Majeed.
A Special Investigating Team (SIT) consisting Additional SP Poonch, Amit Gupta, DSP Operations Poonch Javeed Naz, SDPO Mendhar Surendar Chowdary and SHO Gursai Sadat Hussain Qureshi are investigating the IED blast.
