Soccer players usually get plenty of criticism for some less-than-convincing and dramatic dives, but every match or seven fans are treated to a true display of human strength (and/or suffering).
There's Argentina's Javier Mascherano, who says he tore his anus while stopping an attempt by Dutch player Arjen Robben. He kept playing. Or his teammate Ezequiel Garay, who basically got kicked in the head. He kept on keeping on.
Then there's the Netherlands' Dirk Kuyt, who in Sunday's sad-but-necessary match for third place with Brazil suffered a nasty cut to the head, according to The Bleacher Report.
The appropriate remedy for his injury? Staples, apparently.
Like a champ, Kuyt kept on playing. You know, after he got his head stapled.
