Jaipur woman accuses senior MP cop of rape, blackmail

Police officer denies charges, says woman’s family members facing more than 60 cases.

A 45-year-old married woman from Jaipur on Saturday accused a senior police officer in Madhya Pradesh of repeatedly raping and blackmailing her after promising to secure the release of her husband, who is lodged in a Bhopal jail in connection with a Rs 200-crore fraud.

In a complaint with Mahila Police Station in Jaipur, she alleged that Additional IG (CID) Anil Mishra raped her several times over the past few months in MP and Rajasthan while promising that he would get her husband out of jail. The mother of two also accused Mishra of blackmailing her after clicking obscene photographs of her daughter and niece.

She said that Mishra would send the pictures over a social messaging platform and threaten to leak them.  Mishra denied the allegations. “I have no idea why the woman has levelled such baseless allegations against me. We had family relations and I don’t know why she is doing it,’’ he told The Sunday Express while admitting that the two had traveled together outside MP.
He claimed he knew the government teacher when he was posted in Hoshangabad a few years ago and that is why she came to him seeking help after a police complaint was lodged against her husband.

After a complaint was filed against the husband in Nasrullaganj Police Station in Sehore district in 2012, the MP police had arrested him. His company, headquartered in Jaipur, is alleged to have cheated about 1.20 lakh customers by not returning the money they had invested. The MP Special Task Force is investigating the two FIRs filed against the company in 2012 and 2013.

Mishra said the woman had come to Bhopal in June and met his seniors but made no mention of the charges against him. He said there are more than 60 cases against her husband and family members in Rajasthan and MP. “I don’t understand how Jaipur police filed an FIR against me on a complaint from a woman whose family members are facing more than 60 criminal cases,” he said.

Festive offer

Jaipur Police Commissioner Sriniwas Rao Janga said, “We have initiated investigation. The woman’s statement has been recorded and her statement under section 164 will be taken at the earliest. The alleged victim claims she has recordings to back her allegations. Once we make some headway, a team will be sent to Bhopal to interrogate the accused.”
While the woman accused him of taking money, Mishra claimed he took a personal loan of Rs 5 lakh to help her because she did not have money to pay for her children’s fees. The family’s bank accounts had been sealed, he said, adding that she returned the money he had loaned.
