SUVA -- Fiji and Poland have established diplomatic relations, the Fijian government announced Saturday.

At a ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Poland to the United Nations in New York on Friday, Peter Thomson, Fiji's permanent representative to the UN and his Polish counterpart Ryszard Sarkowicz signed a joint communique establishing diplomatic relations between the two states, according to Fiji's Ministry of Information. KABUL -- About 16 Afghans were killed and 13 others wounded in attacks in Afghanistan on Saturday as the Taliban insurgents intensified attacks and the NATO-led forces are withdrawing from the war-torn country.
