A 28-year-old youth was allegedly shot at by two bike-borne assailants in Nizamuddin area of south-east Delhi on Friday morning.

The police suspect the firing is an act of revenge as the victim's mother, who hails from Manipur, had turned in two snatchers last month in East Delhi.

The victim, Ricky Ranjit Sahni, is a Mixed Martial Arts professional and has participated in several national and international events.

The incident took place when Ricky was on his way to a South Delhi gym where he works as an instructor.

"As he reached near Nizamuddin on his motorcycle, two bike-borne assailants, who were wearing helmets, started following him and later fired two shots at him. While the first shot missed him, the second bullet hit him in his leg," a police officer said, adding that Ricky was taken to a nearby hospital and is out of danger.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified accused and efforts are on to nab them.

On June 27, Ricky's mother Laimayum Khulna Sahni (49), a choreographer and wife of Avtar Singh Sahni, had displayed rare courage when she caught two snatchers and handed them over to the local police.
