A 20-year-old Santa Cruz resident was allegedly attacked by his brother-in-law and three others on a Nalasopara hilltop on Thursday. The accused, who's after the victim's Vakola property, had allegedly invited the youth for sightseeing but had given a contract to the other three to kill him.

The victim, Ajay Yashwant Gorivale, who is a BMC employee, suffered deep cuts on his throat and is recuperating at Alliance hospital in Nalasopara.

According to the Nalasopara police, Kiran Wagle, Gorivale's sister's husband, invited him to come for sightseeing. After they reached the top, they had a couple of drinks and, soon after, three people, who had allegedly been lying in wait, surrounded Gorivale. The four of them slashed his throat with a sharp weapon and fled. Locals and passers-by then took a severely injured Gorivale to hospital.

An officer said, "The accused, Wagle, had kept three people ready with the weapon on the hilltop. As they sat and drank whiskey, enjoying the view, the three emerged and held Gorivale. They slashed his throat and ran away."

"In-laws of the victim's sister wanted to grab his property and had given a supari to kill him, but they failed... Investigations are on and we will soon make arrests under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code," said sub-inspector Sandeep Lokhande.
