CHANDIGARH: As seats fill up at most colleges, GGDSD College has started drawing students at its new campus in Kheri Gurna. The college, though affiliated to Patiala's Punjabi University, is giving students an option of staying at Sector 32 hostels and transport for moving to the Kheri Gurna campus for classes.
The college also provides BA (professional) and BBA (professional) in addition to these regular courses, which is not available at Chandigarh.

According to the college, the idea of the new college was to accommodate students who couldn't get admission in the Chandigarh college due to high cutoffs. "The college at Kheri Gurna has been opened in response to the need of the students. The aim is to provide a good alternative to students who could not get admission in Chandigarh despite having scored very high marks. It offers the same environment, experienced and qualified faculty, world-class infrastructure and other facilities to students as is offered by all colleges under the SDCC brand," said Upkar Krishan Sharma, president, GGDSD College Society.
"The application to seat ratio of SD College hovers around 20:1. This prevents many meritorious students from getting admission here," said Bhushan Kumar Sharma, principal of GGDSD College.
"Students at Kheri Gurna will be free to use all resources available at the Chandigarh College, including hostel and library facilities," said principal Anil K Parti.
The Kheri Gurna college has 66 seats in BCom (professional), BCom (honours) and BCom. Out of these 22 each have been filled. In BA (80 in each section) and BBA (50 seats), 40 and 10 seats have respectively been taken.
