CHANDIGARH: The UT vigilance wing on Thursday arrested a former president of Victoria Enclave, Sector 50, Kulwant Singh Gill (66), for committing cheating, forgery, and causing a loss to the Chandigarh Administration of crores of rupees. The accused had earlier been arrested by the CBI in connection with fraud and causing a loss to the state exchequer.
He has been taken on a one-day police remand from a local court.
The vigilance sources said Gill had been allotted a flat from the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), but he mischievously sold the flat to someone else, and later obtained a flat in Victoria Enclave-50 with the connivance of some officials of the Department of Co-Operative Societies.
The vigilance officials have identified three officials of co-operative societies, including a retired official, against whom action will be taken shortly. Vigilance inspector Gurjeet Kaur said Gill had been elected president of the society by forging several documents. "We will nab some officials of the co-operative societies," he said.
