New plays by Bathsheba Doran and Nick Jones, two playwrights whose TV gigs include Emmy-nominated series “Masters of Sex” and “Orange is the New Black,” have been added to the 2014-15 slate at Lincoln Center Theater.
Doran, currently a writer-producer on Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” and a former scribe for “Boardwalk Empire” and “Smash,” pens “The Mystery of Love and Sex,” about two longtime friends whose romance upends their relationship with each other and with their families. Sam Gold (“Fun Home,” “The Flick”), who directed the well-received Off Broadway staging of Doran’s “Kin” in 2011, helms the new play, set for a spring opening at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, LCT’s Off Broadway space.
The latest from “Orange is the New Black” writer and co-producer Jones, “Verite,” follows the strange events that befall a struggling writer whose memoir will be published only if her life becomes interesting enough to read about. Moritz von Stuelpnagel, who directed last season’s Off Broadway success “Hand to God” as well as Jones’ play “Trevor,” helms.
“Verite,” commissioned by LCT’s new-work initiative LCT3, will play the Claire Tow Theater in a run that starts previews Jan. 31 ahead of a Feb. 18 opening. “Mystery of Love and Sex” starts its run at the Newhouse Feb. 5 prior to a March 2 opening.

The two titles joins an upcoming roster of LCT productions that includes a Broadway staging of Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer winner “Disgraced” and a new revival of “The King and I” starring Ken Watanabe and Kelli O’Hara.
