RAJKOT: Police nabbed Aswin Kathi, an accused in the murder of former Junagadh deputy mayor, from Bhesan town in Junagadh on Wednesday.
Kathi had escaped from police custody in March from Junagadh Civil Hospital. Police teams had gone to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in search of Kathi.
Superintendent of police, Junagadh, Saurabh Tolumbia said following a tip-off, the police had kept a vigil on Galath Chowkdi in Bhesan.
"He was going from Bhesan to Amreli when our team nabbed him,'' he said.
A BJP councillor and former deputy mayor of Junagadh Karman Katara was shot dead at point blank range in February 2010 in Bhavnath Taleti area. Kathi and his associates had allegedly killed Katara as they believed that Katara was behind their arrests under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) and Arms Acts.
Police said they will interrogate Kathi to find out where he stayed all this while and who gave him shelter since he fled from police custody. Police said Kathi is a history-sheeter.
