Siddhpur cancer hospital goes defunct as Jaynarayan becomes politically irrelevant

Ahmedabad, 10 July, 2014

Projects for short term political gains work only for short term.

When Jaynarayan Vyas was health minister of Gujarat, he planned a cancer hospital in his constituency Siddhpur in north Gujarat.

According to present MLA of Siddhpur, Vyas hurriedly opened the hospital in Siddhpur ahead of the assembly elections. However due to lack of staff the hospital couldn’t function well. Congress MLA of Siddhpur Balwantsinh Rajput on Wednesday said only 20 of 80 posts are filled.

He said on 8 July, 25 patients were relieved from Siddhpur hospital and were told to continue their treatment in Ahmedabad based Gujarat Cancer Research Institute(GCRI) run cancer hospital.

When Vyas was Health Minister he had roped in GCRI as partner of Siddhpur cancer hospital. GCRI is government granted organization.

Later Vyas lost assembly election in Siddhpur against Congress’s Rajput.

It seems GCRI too lost interest from Siddhpur facility as soon as Vyas became politically irrelevant.
