Major traffic snarls were reported in Mumbai on Wednesday due to continuous and heavy downpour in the city.

Motorists were stuck in jams for hours especially during peak hours. Water logging was reported in several pockets of the city. Sion, LBS Marg, Jogeshwari, Andheri and parts of Tulsi Pipe Road were hit by traffic jams. Western express highway and eastern highway also reported slow-moving traffic due to water logging.

Traffic movement was badly affected on the south bound stretch of the Eastern Freeway after three cars cwere involved in a collision around afternoon. Traffic was also affected on the Western Express Highway after a tree fell. Fire brigade had to be called to clear the road.

According to traffic police, traffic jams due to water logging were also reported in Worli, Bandra, parts of SV Road and Link Road, Parel, Matunga, Dadar among other areas. Traffic police said that during morning peak hours, traffic movement was better as compared to post 5pm. "It has been raining since morning and before 9am water logging in areas like Matunga, Sion, Hindmata, Parel, Kalachowkie and many other areas. It has been raining heavily throughout the day but by evening it reduced to a drizzle which eased traffic movement to some extent," a traffic police officer explained. Extra traffic policemen have been deployed to manage vehicular movement in several areas.

Meanwhile, motorists took to social networking sites to inform, alert and complain about traffic snarls. Twitter user Sahil Shah @sahil2171 said 'BKC rd (road) towards Kalanagar junction jammed more than usual.
Incidents of vehicle stalling were reported which further aggravated the traffic condition in the city. Twitter user @C00ltaurean tweeted on @trafflineMum car stuck on parle bridge. jam on north bound right lane.crane reached on site removing car now.traffic shd reduce in sometime.
