: A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver was killed on the spot after a part of the compound of an empty site collapsed on him near J.C. Road on Wednesday. The deceased, Farooq, was a resident of Gouripalya.

Police said Farooq left home in the morning for work and had parked his autorickshaw to relieve himself. A five-foot high compound of an empty site, measuring 15 ft x 100 ft, collapsed on him burying him under the debris.

A few passers-by rushed to his help and shifted him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

An inspection conducted by the police revealed that the recent spell of rain had weakened the wall, which was already in a dilapidated condition. The Kalasipalya police have registered a case.
