I am ready to wear a bikini onscreen
At 28, actress Gayatri Deshmukh looks stunning and carries her bold image with elegance. The mother of a six-year-old started her acting career a little late but already has three television shows to her credit and four films in the pipeline. In a chat with Nashik Times Gayatri talks about her career after marriage, how she manages work and family, and more. Excerpts:
What made you begin your acting career so late?
I was doing theatre and modeling for some commercials before marriage.
I took a long break from all this after marriage because I had a kid to look after. Now that he is old enough to manage things, I am back to acting.
Your son stays in Nashik while you work in Mumbai. How do you juggle your family life and work?
I shuttle between Nashik and Mumbai quite a lot. My husband, my son and I talk at least once everyday on conference call. I meet my son at least once a week and my husband drops in here once a month.
What are the projects that you are working on?
I recently shot for a film titled 'Kamali'. It is the character of a rural woman fighting for justice against a rich man played by Sayaji Shinde. There is another film titled Prime Time where I play the role of a channel head. I also have 'Shortcut' in pipeline where I play a sexy teacher and then there is Miss Match where I am one of the supporting cast. I am really happy with the way my career is shaping up in films.

Are you happy with your television career?
Not really. Though I got to do some really nice cameos is shows like '1760 Sasubaaii' and 'Asmita' apart from a track in another daily soap, I am not really happy with the work I have done till now. I am really looking forward to play a lead role in some serial. More than films I need to concentrate on television for now because it is a medium that has maximum reach in the Marathi industry.
We heard you are doing a Hindi serial too..
I am doing a Hindi comedy serial directed by Pankaj Parashar. I play the role of a sexy and glamorous girl in it.
Given your bold image, would you be comfortable wearing a bikini onscreen?
Absolutely yes! Personally, I feel that being sexy is not restricted to wearing a bikini alone. You can look sexy in a sari as well. I am comfortable with my body and if required, I will surely wear a bikini onscreen.
You have worked with Subodh Bhave in a music video and share a good rapport with him. Will you be doing a film together?
I have known Subodh for some time now. We had planned to do a film together but it got delayed due to some reasons. But we will start shooting for it soon.
What is that one thing about Nashik that you miss the most while working in Mumbai?
I miss the relaxed life of the city. In Mumbai you simply have no time to breathe.
What are your favourite hangouts in the city?
Every time I come to city Salims chai is the first place I visit. During monsoons a drive on Trimbak road is heavenly and I go there whenever I get the time.
