GHAZIABAD: A girl studying in class XI was run over by a train at Sahibabad railway station on Tuesday. Police said the victim's family has not lodged a complaint yet.
According to Government Railway Police, around 25 people get run over by trains on an average every year at Sahibabad railway station. Cops said it is during rush hour when commuters often bypass the foot-overbridge cross tracks to catch the trains.
Most accidents take place when commuters are caught between two trains coming from either sides on adjacent tracks.
"In spite of knowing that railways does not compensate victims who are killed or injured by trains while trying to cross tracks, the number of commuters using foot overbridges has not increased," said Sahibabad GRP post in-charge, R K Sharma.
At present, Sahibabad railway station has only one FOB while Ghaziabad railway station has two. The New Ghaziabad railway station also has one FOB.
