4 painters held for robbery in Boisar

The Boisar MIDC police on Monday arrested four men who would take up odd painting and carpentry jobs during the day, and turn to robbery at night.

The quartet had made unsuccessful attempts to break open ATMs in the area, and also confessed to several other cases of robbing local traders. “We have arrested Rehaan Khan, 22, Ashish Singh, 26, Vijay Gupta, 29, and Narendra Tiwari, 22. They are part of a gang who made a few unsuccessful attempts to rob unguarded ATMs in mid-June,” API Abbasaheb Patil of the Boisar MIDC Police Station told Mirror.

“For instance, on June 20, they tried to break open the ATM of Axis Bank at Shivajinagar in Boisar, but were unable to get their hands on the cash. They also destroyed the CCTV cameras installed in the centre,” said API Patil. “We are interrogating them and are yet to ascertain the exact number of ATMs they tried breaking open.”

According to the police, the gang also waylaid and robbed a number of local traders at unmanned Railway level crossings and other desolate spots at night. “After finishing their painting and carpentry jobs during the day, the quartet would move around on motorcycles looking for ATMs and victims to target, and at night would get down to the task,” API Patil said.

“We have arrested the four accused for dacoity. They were produced in the Palghar court and have been remanded in police custody till July 10,” said the officer. “We are hunting for the other members of the gang,” he added.
