Moneylender on run after woman alleges rape

A moneylender is on the run in Navghar, Bhayander (East) after allegedly repeatedly raping a woman who did not repay a loan of Rs 35,000 she had taken from him. The man allegedly raped the woman over the past year and, tired of the torture, she finally complained to the Navghar police.

Kamlesh Chandmal Jain, 30, a resident of Silver Park, Mira Road, loaned the money to the wife of a distant cousin last year. Since then, the woman has been unable to repay the loan, so Jain would demand sexual favours whenever her husband was away, the woman has alleged in her complaint to the Navghar police. Jain threatened the woman that he would kill her if she revealed his actions to anyone, she said.

“We have registered a case of rape under Section 376 of the IPC against Jain, who is absconding,” said senior inspector A S Kurundkar, Navghar police. “We will also investigate whether Jain had the necessary permissions to lend money.”
