BHOPAL:
Residents in
Bhopal, has reasons to cheer. Not only will 12 new proposed
trains pass through state capital, but the long pending demand for extension of
New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express to Habibganj, has finally come true.
TOI had ran a campaign for extending Shatabdi Express to Habibganj station.
Talking to TOI, general secretary of Bhopal Railway Passengers and Consumer Association, Niranjan Wadhwani said, "This is great news for residents of Bhopal.
After sending so many proposals to railway board, it has finally seen light of day."
However, when exactly will the proposal come into effect, is not clear as of now. It could be from the next time table, that would be effective from September 1.
Shatabdi's journey to Habibganj hasn't been a smooth one. After much persuasion from the then urban administration and development minister Babulal Gaur and Bhopal division railway officials , railway ministry permitted trial run last year. The seven-day trial run was held from April 1, but it was not given a go as the train time got delayed by 36 minutes when it reached Delhi. However, railway board member, traffic, Devi Prasad Pandey had hinted about extending the train to Habibganj earlier this year.
