Tanaaz and Bhakhtyar Irani: It doesn’t look like we are acting

Real life couple Tanaaz and Bhakhtyar Irani talk about acting together for the first time. Television show 'Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai' has real-life couple Tanaaz and Bhakhtyar Irani pairing up in a fiction show for the first time. They play Lisa and Ronnie D’souza in the show.

Says Tanaaz, “When the script was narrated, my first reaction was that they must have installed CCTV cameras in our house as the characters are exactly how we behave in real life.Like Ronnie, Bhakhtyar also gets angry when hungry. I am the calming factor in his life.”

Bhakhtyar adds, “I can relate to the character as that’s how I am in real life. I am short-tempered, but good at heart. We don’t really have to act. The best part is that the comedy is not over-the-top. There is an emotional bent to it, which is rare. Every actor is secure in his/her space.” Another bonus is that the show allows them to spend a lot of time together. About the advantages of working together, Tanaaz says, “We can give frank opinions about each other’s performance while shooting. The chemistry has been rocking since day one. We are used to each other and hence, there is no awkwardness. It doesn’t look like we are acting.” “I have always had fun working with Tanaaz. There is a comfort level because she is my wife,” says Bhakhtyar.
But there are cons, too. “If you ask me about the disadvantage, it’s that he is always there. But he gives me my space,” Tanaaz points out.
And how much do they relate to the concept of the show? The actress says, “The terminology ‘alien’ is frequently used by me. Whenever we are upset with each other, we call each other alien.” Bhakhtyar says he finds his wife alien. “I find her alien because nobody can be sweet after spending 22 years in the industry. Anything that’s bizarre looks alien to us, including a couple fighting on the road, because we don’t do that.”
