Acquisition of land for expansion of Central Prison at Parappana Agrarhara: Dispossesion of 49 persons stayed
BANGALORE: Justice A S Bopanna of the Karnataka high court has granted stay in respect of evicting/dispossessing of 49 site owners from their residential in Naganathapura ward, close to Central prison at Parappana Agrahara.
The Judge passed this order on a petition filed by G Shashikiran and 48 others.
"Land Acquisition for the purpose of expansion is highly unscientific .Once already about one acre and 22 guntas of land was acquired .The previous acquisition [for 3 times] was withdrawn by the state government itself The special land acquisition officer did not forward his recommendation on the objections made by the land owners existence of several residential homes and commercial buildings on the property proposed to be acquired" K Kiran Kumar counsel for the petitioners told the court.

The petitioners have contended that Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara, is having sufficient space within its own premise which has remained un-utilized/under-utilized.
According to them, a vast tract of 16 acres 23 guntas gomal land is lying vacant and the same can be utilized.
