Abu Dhabi: India has now become the 19th member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) to designate a Permanent Representative to the agency.

T.P. Seetharam, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, formally presented his credentials as India’s Permanent Representative to Irena to Adnan Z. Ameen, Director-General of Irena, on Sunday. The brief ceremony was held at the Irena headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Irena is an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation. The agency promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development.

India attaches great importance to the renewable energy sector and believes that only through a collaborative approach can the goal of a sustainable energy future be realised. The accreditation of Irena marks a significant step in this direction.
