HC directs registry to give translated copies of Zakia plea to all parties in riots case

Jafri had appealed against a Metropolitan Magistrate court’s order that upheld SIT report in the High Court.

The Gujarat High Court on Monday directed its registry to hand over the translated copies of Zakia Jafri’s petition, along with annexures, to the concerned parties.

Jafri’s petition is against the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) that gave clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case.

Jafri had appealed against a Metropolitan Magistrate court’s order that upheld SIT report in the High Court.

After admitting the petition, the court of justice S G Shah had directed the court’s registry to translate the annexures of petition from Gujarat into English, including lower court’s order and other documents.

The matter will be heard on July 15 when the copies of translation will be handed over to the parties.

Festive offer

On March 15 this year, Zakia had moved HC against the Magistrate court’s order upholding the SIT report that there was not enough evidence to prosecute the accused.

Jafri’s husband, Ahsan Jafri, an ex-Congress MP, had been killed by a mob at Gulberg Society in Ahmedabad on February 28, 2002, following the Godhra train fire incident.
