Six Indians on picnic drown in Arabian Sea

Six Indian tourists from Mumbai drowned in the Arabian Sea at the Murud beach located in Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra on Sunday, when they ventured into the sea for swimming.

According to Raigad Police, the deceased were between 40-45 years and residents of Ghatla area of Chembur in Mumbai. The names of the deceased as revealed by local authorities are: Dinesh Pawar, Rohit Jhala, Dilip Ghule, Vinod Deonar, Sanjay Pawar and Shankar. 

In a statement, Raigad police said: “A group of 15 people had come from Mumbai to Murud for a picnic. Eight of them entered into the water for swimming, but six of them drowned, while two other survived.”

The police managed to recover the bodies of all six people from the sea with the help of local villagers and fishermen. The bodies of the deceased were later taken to Alibaug civil hospital for post-mortem.
