Duo named in bank manager’s suicide note transferred

“We have been visiting the residences of the accused daily. Their families claim they have no idea about the two. They say the two have not contacted them,” said investigating officer, SHO Inspector Aman Singh of GRP.

One of Sehgal’s colleagues, Rajinder Walia said, “There are other employees who were also being harassed and humiliated. But Sehgal was being harassed the most.”

Inspector Aman added, “Sehgal’s wife said in her statement that he (Sehgal) had told her that the two had been asking him to sanction a loan which he did not want to. As a result, he was being snubbed.”

To this, Walia added that others who were being harassed were members of the team that was working on the case. “The entire team was being humiliated but no one spoke up. Sehgal in his note said others were also being harassed, which is true.”

Taking cognizance of the matter, the bank has transferred both the officers. J K Gupta has been asked to report to the office in Delhi, while A K Gupta has been asked to report in Lucknow.

Walia said that duo had been posted together on many occasions and had joined at Panchkula recently.

Meanwhile, city-based Advocate Pankaj Chandgothia has filed a complaint before the National Human Rights Commission asking for directions to the PNB to suspend the officers and present them before investigating officers. He has sought direction to the bank to grant a compensation of Rs 5 crore to the victim’s family as he died due to the negligence of the bank authorities, who failed to address the problem of victimisation of its employees.

The advocate has also asked that PNB and other banks should be directed to form an anti-harassment committee to deal with complaints of employees being harassed by their seniors.
