PMC in soup over non-functional City Volunteer Technical Corps

In her letter to Chief  Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Sukhrani said she was looking forward to a detailed inquiry and explanation and more importantly, implementation of guidelines from the Government of Maharshtra and the Centre. “It is due to this very reason that none of the JNNURM projects in Pune Municipal area are properly executed in public interest,” she said.

The PMC issued a notice dated December 10, 2010, inviting interested persons to be nominated to the CVTC, she said.

She further said the PMC, replying to an RTI query furnished information on technical persons under nine fields as on the committee while stipulating that meetings be held once in three months. However, it was revealed that those listed on CVTC were not even informed of their inclusion in the committee.

This is primarily because citizen experts would have questioned them regularly about the mismanagement of funds, compromising on quality, not adhering to following guidelines, industry norms and concepts, and continuously falling short on timelines, Sukhrani said.

“I recently got to know that I have been nominated as member of the CVTC for Urban planning field. This came as a surprise for me as I am not at all aware of the formation of the CVTC and my membership,” said Prashant Inamdar, Convenor of Pedestrians First.

“I wonder whether the formation of CVTC by the PMC was intended only as technical compliance on paper without even informing the nominated members. This is a very serious matter and I have demanded enquiry to determine what exactly transpired in the matter of CVTC and fix accountability for lapses that have rendered the very important CVTC non-functional,” he added.
