Online registration drives touts away

NOIDA: The introduction of online facility for registration of vehicles, commercial tax payment and booking VIP numbers in the district has driven away touts and agents from outside the regional transport office, officials said.
Transport officials said that with a reduction in the number of people coming to the office because of the online facility, the middle-men and agents who used to lure people by promising to get their work done faster have also gone down.
“Earlier, around 1,100 people used to visit the office every day, but now we only get around 600 to 700 people,” said Rajesh Singh, ARTO (enforcement).
“The rush of people for booking fancy registration numbers has also reduced to a huge extent as these numbers can only be booked online,” said Rachna Yaduvanshi of the administration wing.
Officials said there are 40 transport agencies in Noida and Greater Noida, but only 10 offer online vehicle registration facility.
