What Karnataka expects from the mantri
Bangalore-Hubli line It takes 24 hours to reach Mumbai from Bangalore by train. A direct line from Tumkur to Davanagere may cut travel time by three hours. Another direct line from Dharwad to Belgaum bypassing the Ghat section near Khanapur will slash travel time by another three hours. The entire track between Bangalore and Belgaum is a single line, leading to trains getting stuck. A twin track can surely be a boon for those heading to Western India.

Bangalore-Chittoor line A new track connecting Whitefield to Kolar, Mulbagal, Palamaner and Chittoor can easily cut Bangalore-Kolkata travel time by four hours. Presently, the travel time is 28 hours.

Bangalore-Chennai line A third line between Bangalore and Chennai can ease train traffic on this stretch.

Bangalore-Hassan line This line, brainchild of former PM H D Deve Gowda, is a classic example of a delayed project. It can cut travel time between Bangalore and Mangalore by a few hours. Meanwhile, more trains can be introduced on the Bangalore-Mangalore railway line.

Bangalore-Guntakal line The doubling of this important line can end the delay Bangalore trains heading to northern India face on this route.

Bangalore-Chikballapur line The track from Bangalore to Chikballapur is hardly used. Connecting Chikballapur to either Penugonda or Puttaparthi (Prashanti Nilayam) will open an alternative route for trains coming from Secunderabad side. This route can also help all North Indian trains to bypass Bangalore and head to Bangarpet junction via Siddlaghatta. The move will also reduce congestion at Bangalore stations.

Commuter Rail System The Commuter Rail System has been a long pending demand in Bangalore to improve suburban trains. Talk by successive railway ministers and chief ministers about CRS has not materialised into action. Suburban trains can greatly benefit commuters on Bangalore-Tumkur, Bangalore-Mysore, Bangalore-Doddaballapur, Bangalore-Bangarpet, and Bangalore-Hosur routes.

Bangalore-Mysore line Doubling of the track between the two cities has been a long pending demand. But the controversy over the shifting of Tipu’s armoury near Srirangapatna has held up the project for long. Hope, the new railway minister gives a big push to the project.
