Manama: Kuwaiti students who have been accepted by UK universities have been urged to present the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) degree ahead of applying for an educational visa.
Explaining terms set by the UK immigration authorities, Mohammad Al Hajeri, Head of the Kuwaiti Cultural Office in the United Kingdom, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that an applicant for an educational visa must score 5.5 marks in all tests.
Universities in the UK require marks ranging between six and six and a half in all specialities and seven for medicine, the official news agency reported Al Hajeri as saying on Sunday.
“As for students who have not made it in the IELTS tests at home, the office will help in registering them at the top institutes in Britain to try to sit for the exam again,” he said. “Students are free to choose the institute, but they must hurry with their registration.”
The number of seats at British medical universities is limited for Kuwaiti students, he added.
“Each university offers three to four seats, with priority for those who have obtained the best high-school grades, not the IELTS marks,” he said.
Al Hajeri said that the office could be contacted via its website. He added that the site also provided information useful for Kuwaiti students.
Thousands of Kuwaiti students attend universities in the UK, US and other Western countries.
