Bank attender killed in public

Fallout of dowry complaint

Hyderabad: A 50-year-old man was killed in a broad daylight by his son-in-law at the Dhobi Ghat in Puranapul on Saturday. The man was pulled down from his scooter and attacked with sharp weapons while he was on way to work.

The killer held a grudge against the victim as he had filed a dowry harassment case against him. The victim had refused to withdraw the case even though the killer had been pressing him to do so.

The victim T. Manohar Singh, was an attender at the State Bank of Hyderabad, City Civil Courts branch and a resident of Durganagar in Kulsumpura, police said.

About two years ago, Manohar Singh got his younger daughter Aarthi married to Anand Singh, the culprit. Eventually, Anand started harassing Aarthi suspecting her fidelity. The issue was taken up by elders from both sides.

As nothing changed, Manohar approached the Women’s police station who held counselling sessions for the couple. About six months ago, a dowry harassment case was registered against Anand, and he was arrested and remanded.

Police said that after his release he started pressurising Manohar to withdraw the case, but the former refused. Anand decided to eliminate him and attacked him on Saturday with the help of his friends, police said.

“Manohar left the house for work on his scooter. The accused followed him, stopped him midway and murdered him. He was attacked with sharp weapons on the head and other parts of the body. He sustained grave injuries and died,” said Mr R. Karan Kumar Singh, inspector, Kulsum-pura. Locals who saw the attack rushed to his rescue, but it was too late. The cops reached the spot after being alerted.

Based on a complaint by the victim’s family, a murder case was registered. The victim’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital and was later handed over to the family after autopsy.
