Gauri Pradhan Tejwani, Rashami Desai scorch the small screen as young moms

As actresses in their late 20s and mid-30s are playing mothers to characters as old as they are or a tad younger, these telly moms with lush black manes (not even a strand of hair out of place and a figure that would give any model a run for her money) look quite unconvincing in the roles they portray.

We bring you a few such telly mommies that will make you go, ‘Are you kidding me?’
Reena Kapoor Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya Reena Kapoor returned to television after a two and a half year break post marriage.
Having tasted success with Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, where she played the main lead for five long years, Reena has now made a comeback with Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, where she now plays Bhavna Khandelwal, a mother to three grown-up children, one of whom is married. Reena confessed in an interview that while she knew she would have to take up matriarchal roles, post her comeback, playing a mother to grown-ups required quite some convincing from the makers of the show. Initially sceptical, she opted for the role only because her character was a simple, strong and positive personality.

Gauri Pradhan Tejwani Meri Ashiqui Tumse Hi Thirty six-year-old Gauri has just made her comeback with Meri Ashiqui Tumse Hi, playing mum to a young girl who seems to be in her early 20s. Gauri, who found success with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kutumb among others, took a break in 2009 after giving birth to twins. In her mid-30s, she is one of the actresses who barely looks the part of a mother to a grown-up girl.
Amrapali Gupta Qubool Hai When Qubool Hai went for a 20 year leap recently, very few cast members from the original made it to the post-leap version. One of the main antagonists, Tanveer played by Amrapali was one such character. While the leap sees her dressing differently, this 26-year-old looks nothing like a mother of the 31-year-old Aahil Raza Ibrahim played by Karanvir Bohra.

Suchitra Pillai Beintehaa Model, anchor, VJ and actress Suchitra who has played small, but noticeable roles in films such as Dil Chahta Hai and Fashion among others, is currently playing not just a mum to three grown-up and married children, but also a grandmother in the teleserial Beintehaa. With a young child of her own, Suchitra is one of the other screen mothers who barely look their part.

Rashami Desai Uttaran As Uttaran went through various leaps, the thing that remained common was the lead starcast. The multiple leaps notwithstanding, Rashami managed to maintain her stronghold in the serial; and from playing a bubbly young girl is now playing the role of a mother. This 27-year-old is currently playing the mum to 24-year-old Sreejita De. Rashmi who has previously acted in Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Manipuri and Bhojpuri films, looks more of a sister than a mother to her onscreen daughter.
Gauri Tonk Ek Boond Ishq Gauri Tonk, who found success with shows like, Kaahin Kissii Roz and dance reality shows, took a break from television 10 years ago. Gauri, who took a sabbatical, is currently playing the mother of the main lead Mrityunjay (Viraf Phiroz Patel) in the serial Ek Boond Ishq. The actress was initially sceptical to play a mum to the 34-year-old Viraf, but she took up the role as it was a meaty one.
