Fortunately, this is an exciting year for cigar smoking, with many record-breaking releases from some of the most prestigious brands in the business.
Cohiba Robustos Supremos
The Cohiba name is one of the most recognizable in the industry. This year, they released the Robustos Supremos, which is the first Cuban to feature a 58-ring gauge, making it the thickest Cuban on the market. Like the Cohiba Behike and Piramides Extras, it features the all-new Cohiba hologram.

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan
The Le Hoyo de San Juan will be the brands’ largest-ringed cigar currently in production, with a gauge of 54. Strangely, this cigar is part of a smaller, thinner collection. Like many other big name brands, the San Juan will feature an embossed logo and will be sold in slide-lid cabinets in sets of 10 or 25.

Partagas Serie D No.6
The Partagas Serie D No.6 is a small stubby cigar – a trend set by Habanos – with a length of just 90mm and ring gauge of 50. These stubby cigars show that it’s all about the taste. Some say they are more suited for a less heavy cigar smoker who simply wants to enjoy a short and sweet sensation.

Trinidad Vigia
The Trinidad Vigia is without a doubt one of the most interesting cigar releases of 2014. This is because within the past few years, Trinidad has struggled financially, and saw both their Robusto Extra and Robusto T discontinued. In fact, rumors even stated that the whole brand was to be axed — so a new release is certainly a surprise. Perhaps this new 110mm, 54-ring gauge cigar could be their ticket back into the industry.

Vegas Robaina Short Robaina
The Vegas Robanina was launched in February, but is a regional cigar that’s only available in Andorra. The ring gauge is 42; the length 110mm; and it’s sold in boxes of 25. With only 2,000 produced, it’s a highly limited cigar and comes with a price tag that reflects its exclusivity.

Ramon Allones 8-9-8
The Ramon Allones 8-9-8 is another exclusive regional cigar that’s available only in Germany. Unlike the other cigars featured on this list, this cigar is long and slim, at 170mm in length, and has a ring gauge of only 43. The Ramon Allones 8-9-8 has a distinct taste that’s a mix of dried fruit, leaves and a hint of leather.

Remember that 90 percent of “Cuban” cigars aren’t actually authentic — even boxes that are sold in bars and clubs. Unless you’re buying from a specialist, they’re unlikely to be the real deal. Make sure you get what you pay for by using reputable suppliers, such as The Cigar Club, and don’t pay over-the-odds unless you’re guaranteed of its authenticity.
