The body of an 60-year-old farmer, who accidentally fell into 45-feet deep borewell in Mainpuri district on Thursday, was pulled out by fire brigade and police with the help of villagers on Friday.

KANPUR: The body of an 60-year-old farmer, who accidentally fell into 45-feet deep borewell in Mainpuri district on Thursday, was pulled out by fire brigade and police with the help of villagers on Friday.
Police said the incident occurred at around 10.30 am on Thursday when Jagatram, a resident of Nagla Sewaram in Karhal district accompanied his sons Duvesh and Mukesh to the borewell in adjoining Nagla Kinnar village, to take out bricks from it.
Duvesh and Mukesh raised an alarm when they saw that their father had fallen into the borewell. The villagers working in nearby fields, passersby and others rushed to the spot. They sought the help of local police. The fire brigade was also alerted.
A team comprising fire and police personnel and villagers began rescue operations by digging a parallel pit. Jagatram was stuck at a depth of nearly 45 feet.
Four JCB machines were also used in the rescue operation, almost 32 hours after he fell, the rescue team pulled him out at 6.30 pm on Friday. "We made all possible efforts to rescue the farmer. He was trapped at a depth of 45 feet. The team members pulled him out by digging deep pit adjacent to the borewell. We could not save the man. His body has been shifted to mortuary for post-mortem examination," district magistrate Govind S Raju said.
