MPBEB scam: Dean who expelled students ends life

D.K. Sakalley had cracked the whip on many students who had fraudulently secured admission into the college after appearing for the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) test.

The dean of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government Medical College in Jabalpur in MP allegedly immolated himself at his house in the campus on Friday.

D.K. Sakalley had cracked the whip on many students who had fraudulently secured admission into the college after appearing for the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) test.

Sakalley was seen screaming and running out of his house, his body on fire, in the morning. His wife was away on a walk. He suffered 95 per cent burns and died at the hospital.
Sakalley was scheduled to retire by the year-end.

His son lives in Bangalore, police sources said.

Police said the dean appeared to have committed suicide but they said they have not found any suicide note in his house.

"The exact reason will be known after post-mortem," a top police official said.

Sakalley was on leave for some time. Those close to the family said he was under severe pressure since the MPPEB scam broke.

MP Police is probing the scam but the Congress has sought a CBI probe.
