Panchayat bans cells for unmarried girls and young boys

Panchayat has ruled that boys will be allowed to use mobile phones only after they get a job

Lucknow: A panchayat in Shadipur village in Bijnore district has banned the use of mobile phones for unmarried girls and young boys. The panchayat diktat came after a young couple eloped from the village earlier this week.

The panchayat has ruled that boys will be allowed to use mobile phones only after they get a job, get married or go outside the village for studies or jobs. The panchayat was attended by over 1,500 residents of the village and they unanimously accepted the decision.

“We feel that the use of mobile phones by young girls and boys is hazardous for society. Besides, there is no need for dependent children to own and use mobiles. After all, we have lived in an era where there were no telephones, leave alone mobiles,” said a source in the village.

According to him, a young couple eloped from the village on June 30 and the local people believe that the couple were in touch with each other through the mobile phone because no one had ever seen them talking to each other and even acknowledging each other's presence in public. The panchayat has also ruled that an assembly of more than four boys after 8 pm has been banned.
