Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has asked the Union Railway Minister Sadanad Gowda to make adequate allotment in the upcoming railway budget for Maharashtra.
The CM has claimed that the state has showed its willingness to partly fund eight railway projects in the state. He further claimed that due to paucity of funds Ahmednagar-Beed-Warli-Vaijnath and Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded projects have been stuck while six projects are yet to get central approval.
“The state is committed to fulfill its share of the funding for the next three years. The railway ministry should also approve its funding for these projects,” Chavan said in a letter written to the Ministry.
In his letter he has also requested the ministry to take into consideration the safety of the suburban railway passengers and demanded that more trains should be started from areas of Navi Mumbai and Virar and beyond.
He also demanded that the Rs 325 crore provision made for MUTP II should be raised to Rs 500 crore. He has also asked the state to expand and improve the stations of Nashik, Devlali and Odha in view of the 2014 Kumbah Mela to be held in Nashik.
